Veronica Armendariz – MCOT Team Leader

Veronica has been with the center since December of 2007. Her current roll is the MCOT Team Lead position. Her previous positions included MCOT on-call, Continuity of Care Liaison, and the MCOT LPHA. In her current roll, Veronica’s primary duties and responsibilities include counseling, risk of harm assessments, LPHA assessments for CRU, ASIST trainer, aftercare appointments, training team members, team lead stuff, and is a Spanish translator. Outside of work Veronica enjoys traveling, church and brunch on Sundays, and cruising in her convertible.

  • What is something people don’t know that you do in your job?
    Go into the community wherever needed (jail, doctor’s offices, homes, Starbucks, etc.) to assess clients that are a risk of harm to themselves or someone else.

    Saving lives everyday
  • What is your favorite part of working for MHMR?
    My favorite part of working for MHMR is that we are helping to save lives each day. Also that each day is always something new. MHMR always brings a challenge.

  • What did you want to be when you were 10?
    A teacher
  • Define success.
    Success is different for everyone, but I see success as helping even one person achieve their goals and overcome issues they are experiencing. If I can help just one person then I have succeeded at my job.
  • Favorite book/movie and why?
    There are too many to name. I love reading and watching movies and have come across many good books and movies throughout the years. I always love a good, romantic read or romantic comedy to watch.
  • Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
    In 10 years I hope to have completed a PhD in a counseling/therapy field. I also have dreams of having a private practice one day. And of course that would be on the side because I will be at MHMR forever. 

    We use, IS PATH WARM, as one way we assess for warning signs of suicide.

Laura Miller – Psychiatric Clinic Assistant

    February 2016
  • What other jobs have you had within the center?
    None
  • What is something people don’t know that you do in your job?
    Although our main focus is our providers, our job is to make sure clinic operations run smoothly and one of our responsibilities is to make sure we collaborate and work hand in hand with other departments. Every day we work with: medical records, benefits, case management, TCOOMI, PAP coordinators, nursing staff, front desk, med room, crisis triage, and CRU. This is all an effort to better support our clients and their needs.

    Compassion, care, and family
  • What is your favorite part of working for MHMR?
    Love my co-workers and my clients and the fact that MHMR is a selfless organization.

    A pilot…or a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle…whichever I could achieve first.

    Gaining the knowledge to make a difference in people’s lives. Being rich with family and friends. To be able to live comfortably without any debt.

    Defending a Monster: John Wayne Gacy I enjoy this book mostly because the author Sam L. Amirante was Gacy’s defense attorney and it allowed us to see Gacy at some of his most vulnerable moments. It tells the story of his life as a serial murdered, the big confession, and the horrific true tales of what this man did.
  • Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
    Having completed a doctorate in Forensic Psychology with an emphasis in psychopathology working with inmates and their families. I also see children, dogs, love, and laughter in my future.

    8 months. I can’t believe it’s been that long, to be honest. Time flies when you’re having fun!

    HOPEFULLY CHANGING LIVES, amirite? The dream is to have a private practice that specializes in working with foster children who are in the process of being adopted and their new families, mainly through play therapy and filial therapy. 
