Only graduate level students will be considered for internship spots. To be an intern at the Center, all clinical interns (social work, counseling) are required to be credentialed as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) to see the individuals we serve. The Center works with interns to get credentialed. Interns MUST have a bachelor’s degree in a human services field to qualify as a QMHP.
It is required to have an affiliation agreement on file prior to starting internship. The Center is not accepting new affiliation agreements with universities at this time. The Center can accept students from universities who currently hold affiliation agreements with us, listed below:

- The availability of internships depends on the supervisor’s schedule, considering both the number of interns needed and time constraints on the supervisor’s position and schedule.
- The Center reserves the right to request interviews to determine the best suitable match. In some cases, the Center may decline certain intern candidates or propose an alternative placement if one is available.
- Interns will work under the supervision of a Denton County MHMR Center employee, who has been authorized by the Center to provide supervision. They will actively contribute to case management and engage in diverse treatment and intervention activities under this supervision

The intern process involves the following steps:

- Complete and sign the intern application on the Center’s official website.
- Your application will be processed, and the supervisor may schedule an intern interview at their discretion.
- If the supervisor extends an offer into the Center’s Internship Program, the following items must be obtained before placement can be secured:
- Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), or
- Site Agreement between the University and the Center.
- Certificate of Insurance, if applicable.
- If accepted, background and registry checks and professional references are part of the application process.
- Once placement is secured, you will schedule an onboarding appointment with the Human Resources Department.
- Attendance at New Employee Orientation (NEO) is mandatory for all interns, volunteers, and practicum students.
- Additional required trainings will be scheduled in collaboration with the Center’s Training and Development Department.

The Center reserves the right to terminate an internship at any point during the assignment. Denton County MHMR Center upholds a non-discriminatory approach in all its services and practices. All intern candidates must undergo mandatory background checks before placement.
Applicants are responsible for covering costs associated with tuberculosis (TB) tests, drug screens, and, if applicable, fingerprints. Detailed pricing information will be provided to you.
